You handle the heavy and routine tasks around the welding bay: moving plate and sections, grinding edges and cleaning up. The welder or fabricator does the skilled welding. The helper supports qualified tradespeople and does not carry out work that needs a licence or trade authorisation. Grinding and fire-watch are done where trained.
An attentive person who takes fire and safety rules seriously and does not mind noisy, hot workshops. Helpers with grinding skills may sit at the higher end of the range. Some helpers move up to welding or fabrication with experience, though this is a possibility and not a promise.
