Role overview

A kitchen helper is required for hotels, restaurants, catering companies and staff or camp kitchens. You support the cooks with preparation, washing and cleaning in a busy, hot working area. AED 1,000 to 1,600 a month, indicative.

Key responsibilities

  • Wash, peel and cut vegetables and fruit as shown by the cook
  • Wash dishes, pots, pans and kitchen equipment
  • Receive deliveries and store them in dry stores, chillers or racks
  • Label and date stored food as the kitchen requires
  • Clean worktops, floors, drains and equipment after service
  • Empty and clean waste bins and move waste to the designated area
  • Set up stations with trays, utensils and ingredients
  • Keep raw and cooked food separate
  • Wash hands and wear gloves and hairnet or cap as the employer requires
  • Report spills, broken equipment or spoilt stock to the chef

Requirements

  • No trade qualification needed
  • Able to follow instructions in Hindi or basic English
  • Willing to follow hygiene and food-safety rules strictly
  • Willing to work in a hot, wet and busy kitchen for a full shift

About the work

You keep the kitchen moving: washing, peeling, cleaning pots and receiving supplies while the chefs cook. The kitchen is hot and fast, with long periods of standing and shifts that can include evenings. The employer expects you to follow its hygiene and food-safety rules at all times. A food handler health certificate is arranged where the employer and local rules require it.
