Role overview

An ARC Welder is required for site, structural and repair work, mostly outdoors and often at height. ARC welding is stick welding, also called SMAW (shielded metal arc welding). The roles cover steel erection, maintenance and repair of plant and equipment. AED 1,500 to 2,800 a month, indicative.

Key responsibilities

  • Weld carbon steel plate, angle, channel and beam using stick electrodes
  • Choose the electrode type and size, such as 6013 or 7018, for the joint and position
  • Keep low-hydrogen electrodes dry in a heated electrode oven or holding quiver
  • Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions on site
  • Repair cracked or worn parts on trailers, tanks, frames, gates and machinery
  • Weld structural connections on platforms, supports, handrails and stairways
  • Work from scaffolds and mobile platforms, using a harness where required
  • Clean slag between passes and chip or grind it back to bright metal
  • Set up generator-driven and engine-driven welding sets and check earth clamps and cables
  • Pre-heat thick sections where the instruction calls for it

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of stick (SMAW) welding experience on site or in repair work
  • ITI Welder or an equivalent trade certificate is preferred. Previous welder qualification test records are an advantage
  • You will sit a practical welding test in the process and position the employer needs before final selection
  • Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces with the right permits
  • Able to read simple fabrication drawings
  • Hot work safety awareness: permits, fire watch, fume control and confined-space rules
  • Basic English or Hindi to follow instructions
  • Valid passport
  • Medically fit for overseas employment

About the work

You will weld on open sites in heat, wind and dust, using stick electrodes on steel that is bolted, propped or already in place. The work includes new erection welds and repair welds on worn or cracked equipment. The employer expects safe working at height, correct electrode handling and welds that hold up under inspection.

Salary & benefits
